The Eeyou Eenou Police Force (EEPF) in Whapmagoostui apprehended a female suspect and recovered 6.5 grams of white powder and 17 bottles of assorted alcoholic beverages following an investigation prompted by information from community members.
In a release dated September 16, 2026, the EEPF reported that officers acted on information received from the public. One female suspect was apprehended in connection with the investigation and taken into custody.
According to the release, the suspect is expected to face charges under the Criminal Code of Canada and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, as well as under Whapmagoostui First Nation Consolidated By-Law 2013-150.
The release identifies Article 5.1 of the community bylaw, which addresses permissible consumption, sale and purchase of alcohol. It states that a person may not purchase more than 8.6 litres of beer, 40 ounces of spirits, and 1.5 litres of wine or cider over a two-week period.
The EEPF thanked community members for providing the information that prompted the investigation. Public reporting can help officers identify concerns and determine where further investigation is needed.
