FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mistissini, Eeyou Istchee – June 2, 2026

On May 28, 2026, at approximately 8 p.m., members of the Eeyou Eenou Police Force (EEPF) of the Mistissini detachment received information indicating that an individual had purchased a large quantity of alcohol in the nearby municipality of Chibougamau and was transporting it towards Mistissini.

Acting on this information, our team conducted surveillance along the access road and stopped a vehicle that matched the description that was received. During the stop, the vehicle appeared to attempt to evade police before coming to a stop.

Upon inspection, officers observed several cases of alcohol in plain view on the rear seat, including four sealed cases of liquor, along with additional cases of alcohol beverages. The driver, Shayne Longchap, 36, was informed of the investigation and was explained the applicable provisions of By-Law 121.8 (Transportation of Alcoholic Beverages) and By-Law 121.3 (Prohibition on the Sale or Exchange of Alcoholic Beverages). Longchap acknowledged the presence of the alcohol and admitted the intent to sell.

As a result of this operation, officers seized the following:
– 48 units of 750 ml of 40% alc/vol
– 24 units of 355 ml of 6% alc/vol
– 24 units of 473 ml of 5% alc/vol

The estimated street value of the seized alcohol is approximately $3,940. The subject was issued a by-law infraction in the amount of $1000. Mr Longchap was also found to have two outstanding warrants issued out of Montreal and was subsequently transferred to the Amos Detention Centre in connection to those matters. EEPF would like to remind the public that the illegal transportation and sale of alcohol within the community of Mistissini is strictly prohibited and will be enforced in accordance with local by-laws.

Eeyou Eenou Police Force would like to thank community members for their continued cooperation and support. Anyone with information regarding illegal activities are encouraged to contact their local detachment or the EI Drug Line at 1-833-EI DRUGS (1-833-343-7847).
