Mistissini, Eeyou Istchee – January 29, 2026 – Members of the Eeyou Eenou Police Force of the Mistissini detachment confirms that a serious shooting incident occurred at approximately 9:00PM on Wednesday, January 28th. This event has tragically resulted in the loss of two (2) community members.

A lockdown measure was in effect for the purpose of everyone’s safety while the investigation was underway. This measure has now been lifted as the concerns of an imminent threat to the community has subsided, and this is no longer an active shooter scenario.

Please remember that this is an active investigation that requires the collaboration of our community members. If you see police activity, please keep your distance, so that the critical work of our officers and investigators is not interrupted.

The Eeyou Eenou Police Force, Cree Nation of Mistissini, and Cree Nation Government will not issue comments to the media at this time as the investigation is active and critical information is still being gathered.

The EEPF would like to thank all officers, investigators, emergency and frontline workers who are collaborating to the best of their ability to quickly restore peace, public safety, and regular activities. We will continue to update the public as the investigation progresses.
