FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wemindji, Eeyou Istchee – May 1, 2026 – Members of the Eeyou Eenou Police Force of the Wemindji detachment received information on April 28th, 2026, concerning an individual selling and exchanging alcohol within the community.

Under the Cree Nation of Wemindji’s Municipal By-Law NO. 2004-130 section 4 states: « Notwithstanding section 9.1 to 9.3 herein, there shall be no sale or exchange of alcoholic beverages anywhere with the territory mentioned in section 1. » and NO.2004-130 Section 1: « Without limiting the generality of the foregoing this By-Law shall apply to all Category 1A land of the Cree Nation of Wemindji, to Category III land situated within the perimeter of such Category 1A land and to all persons on such lands. »

In respect to this by-law, any convicted offender shall be liable to a fine not exceeding five thousand dollars ($5000.00) or to imprisonment of a term not exceeding six (6) months or both such fine and imprisonment.

One female (32) is facing charges under the Cree Nation of Wemindji’s municipal by-law for Sale or Exchange of Alcohol Beverages. The individual is scheduled to appear in court on July 22nd, 2026 in Wemindji.
