FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Waswanipi, Eeyou Istchee – March 26, 2026 – Members of the Eeyou Eenou Police Force of the Waswanipi detachment along with officers of the Sûreté du Québec responded to a call received on March 25, 2026, at approximately 5:48 p.m. regarding a vehicle accident at kilometer 262 on Highway 113.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed there were injuries and requested assistance from ambulance and fire department services. It was later confirmed that one of the passengers was deceased.

Three individuals were in the vehicle. Two were taken to the Waswanipi clinic and then transferred to the Chibougamau hospital for further medical treatment.

The Sûreté du Québec is currently conducting the investigation.

The Eeyou Eenou Police Force would like to acknowledge two Good Samaritans who stopped at the scene and provided assistance to our police officers and first responders.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends and the community of Waswanipi during this difficult time.
