Press Release – Eastmain, February 13, 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Eastmain, Eeyou Istchee – February 13, 2026 – Members of the Eeyou Eenou Police Force of the Eastmain detachment responded to a call on February 12, 2026 at approximately 15:52 regarding threats reported at the school. As a precaution to protect students and staff, the school initiated a lockdown.

After gathering additional information, the suspect (16) was arrested and taken into police custody at approximately 16:30.

Following consultation with the on-call Crown prosecutor, it was determined there was no immediate threat to public safety. The youth was released on a Promise to Appear before a judge and a peace officer’s undertaking that includes a condition prohibiting the possession of firearms.

Due to the protections listed in the Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada, the name of the youth suspect cannot be released.

EEPF reminds all community members to keep firearms locked and securely stored. We also remind the public that uttering threats is a criminal offence under the Criminal Code.
