FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Waswanipi, Qc – July 28, 2025 – Members of the Eeyou Eenou Police Force of the Waswanipi detachment along with officers of the Sûreté du Québec responded to a call received on July 25th, 2025, for an unconscious male at his residence.

EEPF and SQ officers arrived at the scene and found a 19-year-old male with injuries that needed immediate medical attention. The victim was transported to the local clinic where he was later declared deceased.

Sûreté du Quebec’s Major Crimes and Homicide Unit were immediately deployed and conducted the investigation.

One female individual (17) was arrested and is in custody, facing charges of Murder under the Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada. Due to the protections listed in this Act, the name of the youth suspect cannot be released.

Eeyou Eenou Police Force would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends impacted by these tragic events.
